A few weeks ago, Mary traveled to the HC28 factory in Beijing. She was particularly excited to see behind the scenes of this emerging furnishings company, due to the sheer beauty and uniqueness of their designs. She returned glowing with stories.
For those who have not had the pleasure of seeing their pieces in the Showroom, HC28 – and their new offshoot, HC28 Cosmo – creates artfully crafted seating, tables, upholstery, casegoods, accessories, and lighting. Each collection is designed by a mix of top European and Asian designers who bring the best of East and West together.
Some of Mary’s discoveries:
“It was incredible to go inside of one of the world’s emerging luxury brands. I was blown away by their hospitality, exceptional dedication to the environment, the care of their workers, and the meticulous attention to detail and quality throughout the manufacturing process. Truthfully, it rivaled the factories of storied European luxury brands and further proved that HC28 is poised to become an icon in the design world.”
“Forget everything you think about the phrase ‘Made in China.’ HC28’s quality rivals any of its European counterparts. Each day, the teams run quality boards where every facet of construction is scrutinized. If there is an inconsistency, they call the team and have a meeting to troubleshoot.”
“What truly took my breath away was the care HC28 has towards their employees. More than 70% of workers live on site in beautiful dorms furnished with HC28 pieces. There is an organic farm on site, and everyone is fed three home cooked meals per day. They even get a 1.5 hour break for lunch where they can eat, rest and restore.”
“HC28 is going to great lengths to clean up the environment. There are four machines that process the air from inside the factory, scrubbing it clean and then emitting only pure air into the environment. Another fun discovery? All of the walnut and oak used in the furniture comes from the USA!”
